French Flower Market Mantle
This mantle is a fresh take on Valentines Day décor that is simple, neutral, and budget friendly.
I simply used things I had on hand, which I always believe is a good practice. It produces creativity and doesn't cost a penny.
I've always loved Valentines Day. Sure there have been seasons when I was single where I found it less than adorable but there's just something about the romance of it all and the feminine colors that I tend to gravitate towards. But with every holiday there is the tacky décor that comes with it...I try my hardest to stray away from these because it just simply isn't my style. I tried to create a décor style here that enveloped the romance of the holiday while staying in the neutral, feminine zone for inspiration for anyone who is looking for Valentine's day décor that isn't all hot pink hearts and lips.
What is more romantic than a vintage French flower shop on valentines day?
My dad has an abundance of lumber, barn board, and wood for me to use on various projects which I am enormously grateful for! Here I used some 100 year old barn board to make this hand painted sign. It's not perfect but it was free, unique, and made by me...which I tend to prefer over store bought. Funny story...I copied a misspelled sign I was drawing inspiration from on Pinterest when I painted this. I then took a picture and posted it on my Instagram stories only to find out hours later (on my own...none of my IG'ers filled me in) that I had spelled Bouquets "Boquets"!
Praise God for sandpaper.
To be honest this mantle isn't too far off from our Christmas décor. However, I thought the grey and white stripped fabric went perfectly with the French theme so I left that up there...after all I cover that giant mirror with any chance I get. The string lights also scream European nights to me so I left those up there as well. The pallet turned backwards is one of my favorite things to decorate because of all the levels and slats I can hang and display things from.
I originally had envisioned the paper wrapped flowers a little differently but again, I used what I had on hand, and I am very happy with how it turned out. Eucalyptus and lambs ear is a staple in this house. I love the colors and texture they both offer. I had some pink bouquet embellishments in a tub in my basement that added that perfect Valentines Day touch!
I hope this post encouraged those of you who look for holiday décor that isn't so "in your face" and motivated you to get creative with what you have. You never know what some butcher paper, silk flowers, a pallet, and string lights can do...until you put them together. So be brave, try something new, make do with what you have...you never know you just might fall in love with it.
Happy Valentines Day!
For God so LOVED the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
