Fireplace Makeover
Our fireplace was not always the star of the living room it has turned out to be. When we first moved into our home it was very dated. Our landlords are very comfortable with us making updates around the home...although not much needs updating, so we did the fireplace!
Here's our only before shot...as you can see it screamed 90's, and not so much in the good way.
We began by getting rid of the brass with some black matt high heat spray paint.
I ended out liking the brick as a solid white better than a white wash. We used a matt white on the brick and followed with an eggshell finish white on all the trim.
I've always loved the way Anthropologie styles their window displays so I've slightly treated our inset above the fireplace as such for different holidays. Follow the links under the examples below for more details and photos on each mantle...
Halloween: Apothercary mantle
Christmas: Farmhouse Tree Farm Mantle
Valentines Day: French Flower Market
I love any chance I get to style it differently for the different seasons and holidays. I usually try to just use what I have on hand. One of the biggest styling challenges I've had with our fireplace is the giant unattractive mirror behind it. I usually cover it with some sort of fabric as a backdrop but I also like to switch it up every now and then and am running out of fabric options. I try to not put to much of our money into my decorating obsession by being innovative with what we already have. Hopefully something in this post inspired you in someway to decorate or update your mantle.
Happy Decorating!
